In 2020 we had to cancel, for the first time ever in our long history, Summer Camp. This was devastating, most particularly for the campers who had hoped to come, their parents, and for us. We were hit hard financially as well as emotionally.
In response we reached out to parents, grandparents, former campers, former staff, alumni, everyone, and anyone who has been touched by Camp Kawartha and asked for their help.
The Thrive 100 Campaign was a success with donations coming in from near and far. Those donations helped us over the immediate financial challenges and got us through September 2020.
Part of the Campaign was to recognize our donors as a means of thanking them. Among our many donors were Lee and David Dobbin who told us how devastated their grandchildren were not to be able to attend Summer Camp. The grandkids are the third generation to come to Camp Kawartha – that’s quite a history!
A special plaque was created to honour all of the Dobbins and it was hung on Oak Cabin. Plaques are spread throughout the Camp to honour all donors…they were attached to canoes, dining tables, theatre benches and garden planters!
Summer Camp was a go this past summer and we are so grateful at so many levels. We still have challenges to get back to our pre-pandemic levels, both in attendance and financially, but we are all working hard to get back on our feet. We celebrate the many families like the Dobbins who helped when we needed it most! We honour their support and devotion to Camp Kawartha.
