It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the recent passing of a Camp alum – Nicole ‘Wisp’ Fortin.  Nicole was a ‘camper’ to her very bones starting as an enthusiastic and fun-loving camper then becoming a counselor.

Nicole chose to make teaching her life’s work.  She shared her love of nature and Camp Kawartha by bringing her students for an outdoor education experience every year. We’re sure her many students still have fond memories of their time here thanks to Ms. Fortin.

To honour Nicole, we will be installing a ‘buddy’ bench.  Schools use these as a place where students can go to signal to others that they may be feeling sad, lonely, isolated.  When a camper sits on Nicole’s bench it will tell other campers and staff that someone needs a friend to play with or someone to talk to.  Her remarkable legacy of helping young people will continue!

The Board and Staff extend our deepest condolences to the Fortin family.
