Programming & Curriculum Links

We believe that inspired learning comes from inspired teaching. We do this by providing engaging, educational programs which feature hands-on activities, drama, storytelling and active games. Our educators, many teacher-trained, share a lifetime commitment to excellence in education in the outdoors. They combine a wide range of knowledge and experience in natural & environmental science, Canadian history, outdoor living skills, and adventure learning. They are continually upgrading their skills by attending workshops, conferences and ourses.

Commitment to Safety

Alongside professional instruction is our commitment to health & safety for all participants. We continually re-assess our programs for any safety issues and all instructors have CPR and First Aid certification. A First Aid station and an AED (automated external defibrillator) unit are located in the dining hall. All climbing and high ropes elements and equipment is inspected on a regular basis by both our staff and the accredited organization which built our high ropes course and climbing wall.  Other Safety measures include:

  • Mandatory swim test for any recreational swimming,
  • Certified lifeguards for all waterfront activity
  • Onsite overnight staff personnel
  • A first day review with students of boundaries and emergency procedures

Accommodations

We are continually upgrading and renovating our accommodations & other facilities with alternative energy features and sustainable building practices while still maintaining a natural rustic feel. There is a wide variety of cabin styles & sizes, all heated, with bunkbeds and a nearby central washroom/shower facility. Although we ask that there is a group leader in each of the cluster of cabins used, teachers/staff can also choose to use our staff house which features its’ own shower & washroom.

Meals

Mealtime is a special part of each day as we gather in the dining hall to enjoy tasty, nutritious food and some valuable community time.  With all the healthy outdoor activity, your students will be re-energized through delicious healthy meals which our kitchen staff prepare with fresh ingredients and local produce. Our on-site greenhouse and garden supply many fresh vegetables and herbs. Special dietary needs and food allergies are given individual attention and alternative meals items are supplied. A salad bar and homemade soups are regular features of meals and as well nutritious snacks and fruit are supplied between meals and in the evenings.

TDSB Approved Excursion Vendor

Camp Kawartha is an approved excursion vendor for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB)

I have brought students from three different schools for over ten years now. Every year students claim their CK experience is the best part of the year. I have students from years gone by who keep in touch & still talk about the trip to CK. A jewel that needs to be treasured. Every child should get the opportunity to go at least once.
