About 25 kids and 15 adults attended the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre on Saturday, Oct 23, 2010 from 10:30 to 12:30 to participate in a Reptiles at Risk presentation hosted by the Junior Field Naturalists which is the Youth Program of the Peterborough Field Naturalists (PFN). Camp Kawartha staff members and Junior Field Naturalist leaders, Neil Fortin and Dan Chronowic coordinated this special event in which kids and parents enjoyed the opportunity to see, learn about and HANDLE live snakes and Turtles – this was truly HANDS-ON learning about the natural world! Snakes that participated in this event included:
- Milk Snake
- Black Rat Snake
- Garter Snake
- Corn Snake
- And a Water Snake
And Turtles in attendance were:
- Eastern Snapping Turtle
- Stinkpot Turtle
- And a Blanding’s Turtle
Many thanks to Jeff and Sabrina from Reptiles at Risk! Camp Kawartha is always excited to work with the other organizations to bring kids (of all ages) in contact with Nature.
