Dear Campers and Families,
With school winding down and the void of the summer cancelations, an outlet for Summer Camp is needed more than ever. We all have a stake in the reprieve that camp offers to our camper, families and staff members.
Never before has there been such a need to bring home the nourishing experiences of Camp Kawartha. With that said, we are taking our next steps forward with a new online initiative, CK At Home, to be launched on Sunday, June 28th, to coincide with the scheduled camp season.
Our theme throughout the summer will be to bring the traditions of Camp Kawartha to your homes. We’ll be posting fun activities, crafts, and challenges weekly. We also look forward to incorporating our camp values that have always been hallmarks of the Camp Kawartha experience. Follow us throughout the summer at www.ckathome.ca to keep up with the fun! Here you will find resources, activities, and events for a summer full of camp fun!
Help us prepare for our 1st CK at Home Event – Community Campfires
Our launching event each session is our traditional campfire held on the 1st night of each session. Campfire is a time when the whole camp comes together in our ‘Campitheatre’ to introduce themselves to the camp and perform songs or skits as a cabin. Our Campfires are a celebration of the camp spirit that we want to keep alive in 2020.
These Community Campfires will stream on YouTube on Sundays corresponding to the would-be start dates of each session – with the first coming-up on Sunday, June 28th!
….and we need YOU to help us make that happen!
We’d like to have the entire extended Camp Kawartha community involved–that’s where you come in! Brush up on your favourite songs and skits–like The Penguin Song, Princess Pat, The Invisible Bench–or even teach them to your family and join us at our Community Campfire!
If you’d like to participate in one of our Community Campfires this summer:
- Record a video of your camper (feel free to include family, friends, and/or pets) performing a favourite camp song or skit
- To help with clarity please film horizontally
- Include the names of everyone involved in the video so we can introduce them
- Send it in to summerstaff@campkawartha.ca
***Your camper’s privacy is important to us. To provide consent for the use of their videos in our campfires, please submit using a parent’s email address that we can cross reference with our registration files*** - Join us this Sunday, June 28th at 7:00PM at https://www.youtube.com/user/CampKawartha
If you have any questions regarding submissions, please email us at summerstaff@campkawartha.ca
We hope you are both excited and a little nervous – those are the same feelings we all have, just like driving down the camp road before arriving at camp in a regular summer (we call them the “Birchview Butterflies”).
If you have any questions or feedback on our CK at Home initiative, please email Adam Strasberg, Summer Camp Director, at adam@campkawartha.ca. Communication is key as we step into new territory and we would look forward to your feedback to make this the best experience possible.
Finally, follow us at www.ckathome.ca and on all our social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for up to date info!
Yours sincerely,
The CK at Home Summer Camp Team
