Below is the description of a great project that one of the young people, Minowe, who has attended programming at the Environment Centre for years has put together.

We just wanted to help spread the word – consider having a look and joining in the fun & learning!

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to spread the word for a project I have been working on for the last three (ish) months.
It’s called Gikendawmowin (Pronounced: Gih-ken-dah-mohw-wihn) book boxes & scavenger hunt!

Gikendamowin is a fun, family friendly, outdoor activity set up from January 18th to February 18th.

So what is it? At the Trent University Nature Area trails, around the RED 1.9 km trail, there are three colourful little free libraries set up, each with their own theme and colours. The Red and Orange box being filled with science, technology, and field guide based books. The Blue box has nature themed story books. And the Green box has nature, and ecology books, as well as younger level nature guides.

So you can go around your house and collect up your own books, sticking to the themes to the best of your abilities (check our How It Works! page on the website), pack up your books, and dress for the weather, and hike the RED 1.9km trail at the Trent University Nature trails, and swap your books along the way!

Here’s a link to the website with the rest of the information:

Thank you so so much!!
