Inspiring Hope For a Greener Future…
How can we give our children hope? The answer is by offering a viable alternative for tomorrow. We can show them that by making responsible choices about the way we live, what we buy and how we use energy, we can all work together to create a more sustainable future.
Using innovative green architecture, the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre showcases alternative energy and sustainable building techniques in action. Designed and built by students in Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program, the centre is a showpiece for what is possible in green design. With gardens, an arboretum, pond and observation beehive, the centre also demonstrates how you can create spaces where both people and nature can thrive. Located on more than 200 acres of stunning Trent University’s wildlife sanctuary lands, this unique 2,000 square foot structure is open year-round.
The Environment Centre is a unique partnership between the Gainey Foundation, Trent University and Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program.

Fleming College
Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program takes experiential learning to a whole new level. Based at the Haliburton Campus, this intensive, cutting-edge certificate program has students design, source and build a completely green structure over the course of the 20-week program. These buildings have no carbon footprint and are among the most sustainable in Canada. Students use reclaimed and recyclable materials, straw bale and rammed earth walls, geothermal heating and cooling, rain water collection systems, and photovoltaic solar power in the construction of each building. Once completed the building becomes an educational tool, teaching communities about green living. www.flemingcollege.ca
