Carol Ingleton

Carol Ingleton was fortunate to grow up with the Don River as her backyard, and to spend summers at the family’s island cottage on Stony Lake where she was greatly influenced and encouraged by her father who had grown up spending summers in the bush at Lake of the Woods, to explore, love and respect the natural world. As a youth she had the opportunity to attend residential summer camps and later to do leadership training and work at camps during her high school years.

She attended Queen’s University after which she moved to Elliot Lake to work for the Elliot Lake Centre, and Sault College teaching outdoor education; specifically programs to introduce Northern Ontario, its geography, geology, mining and forestry, to students from southern Ontario. In addition to this she administrated both summer and year round local and residential programs for the community in the arts, and theatre.

She attended the Faculty of Education at University of Toronto and then for many years taught at the elementary level for the Peel Board of Education. As well as teaching core grades, she taught French, Art, and English as a second language, all subjects being approached with an environmental focus. For a number of years she was an active member of the Ontario Council of Outdoor Educators.

In 1998 Carol and her husband moved to a rural property just north of Lakefield, where they both have been involved with the Kawartha Land Trust and Performing Arts Lakefield.
