This is the 3rd installment of our ‘In a Nutshell’ series which tells you about the many activities and programs that we have available.

Did you know that Camp Kawartha provides outdoor learning opportunities for school classes at their school?  We’ve visited over 20 schools this past year, delivering programs such as Adaptations, Patterns in Nature, Renewable Energy, Flight and more.

All these programs are linked to the Ontario Curriculum.  As well we’ve provided a series of Teacher Workshops to showcase how the schoolyard can become an extension of the classroom.  So much research has demonstrated the health benefits of time spent outside.  Simply breathing in forest air boosts immunity, seeing the colour green increases serotonin levels (the feel-good hormone) and decreased cortisol (the stress hormone).  Studies have shown that kids who are outside for 30 minutes, cooperate more, focus better and are generally happier when they return to their classroom.

Here is a nature sculpture that students just created from Monseigneur O’Donoghue Catholic School in Peterborough.
