In the busyness of daily work, delivering programs, answering emails, and processing registrations, it’s easy to lose sight of why we do what we do. Every now and then, we are reminded: this work is about moments that matter. Moments when a child steps into the forest for the first time, discovers a sense of wonder, and begins to feel a connection to the natural world. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we continue to hear powerful stories like the one below, reminders of the lasting impact Camp Kawartha has on children, especially for those families who otherwise would never be able afford a visit to an outdoor centre.

Here is the response of staff whose class received support to attend Camp Kawartha:

Our recent camp experience had a profound and lasting impact on our students, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity made possible through the Subsidy Fund. For many of our students, this was their first time spending meaningful time in a forest during the winter. Walking through snow-covered trails, surrounded by tall trees and complete quiet, was something entirely new – and truly memorable.

The forest setting itself left a strong impression. Several students shared that they had never experienced a winter landscape in this way. They noticed animal tracks, the stillness of the woods, and the beauty of sunlight reflecting off the snow. For some, it was their first opportunity to disconnect from screens and routines and simply be present outdoors. In the days and even weeks following our visit, students continued to talk about the skiing trails, the campfire moments, and the sense of accomplishment they felt.

This visit was more than just a field trip, it was an experience that fostered resilience, connection with nature, and a sense of achievement. Your support through the Subsidy Fund made it possible for our students to access an opportunity that many would not otherwise have had. The impact has been lasting, meaningful, and deeply appreciated.”
