With its myriad of renewable and environmentally-friendly features, The Camp Kawartha Environment Centre is one of Canada’s most sustainable buildings. From straw bale wall construction to solar panels, the Centre provides an inspiring setting in which to teach students the environmental value of building thoughtfully from the ground up. After a tour of the facilities, students will explore firsthand the challenges of implementing sustainable practices. Tasked with the goal of creating a sustainable fishing community, students will need to strategize, compromise, and discuss how best to overcome the age-old dilemma of ‘The Tragedy of the Commons’.
